I would like to make note of a little more generic version of the htaccess rule to do this.

    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
    RewriteRule .* http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
    woww.. that helped me.. thanks!

    EDIT: man!
now when someone open gsmdna.net, it redirects to www.gsmdna.net
but it shows URL like this http://www.gsmdna.net/index.php?wwwRedirect

    please help me!

2nd EDIT: Thanks for all who helped. I setup everything... now www.gsmdna.net redirecting to gsmdna.net successfully!

Be consistent: Try to keep your internal linking consistent. For example, don't link to http://www.example.com/page/ and http://www.example.com/page and http://www.example.com/page/index.htm.

Hey guys I've got myself a bit of a problem with a 301 redirect I'm trying to get working.

    Code:
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.eesonline\.co.uk [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.eesonline.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]
its casuing a redirect loop, basically i want the none www. version to link to the www version. so eesonline.co.uk > www.eesonline.co.uk

Also the htaccess file contains the gzip code:

    Code:
    # compress the files
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css text/javascript application/x-javascript
    # removes some bugs
    BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html
    BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip
    BrowserMatch \bMSIE !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html
    Header append Vary User-Agent
No idea if that would be causing an issue or not?

Escape the periods with backslashes in the RewriteCond -- .co.uk TLD has two periods

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^eesonline\.co\.uk
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.eesonline.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]

This is what the entire htaccess file looks like, its still going round in a redirect loop!

    Code:
    # compress the files
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/css text/javascript application/x-javascript
    # removes some bugs
    BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html

    Try this

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^eesonline\.co\.uk
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.eesonline.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]

After going to eesonline.co.uk it redirects to:

    http://www.eesonline.co.uk/eesonline.co.uk/

    So its still not working

    One of these should work

    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.domain\.co\.uk [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com$1 [L,R=301]
    Code:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.co\.uk [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com$1 [L,R=301]
