I'll be backing David's statement.
From what I have seen, Promotion Forums are purely only for some genres, and those ones only. Everyone I see who only promotes on a promotion forum either runs an Admin forum, a General Discussion forum, a Gaming forum, or some other promotion forum. That's the only things I see from there. Someone like me, who owns a very specific genre, can't rely on post exchanges because those people might not know Rock Band, and that's absolutely fine. Not everyone plays Rock Band. When I do a post exchange, I end up getting 95% off-topic exchanges because they don't take the time to learn the specific genre. On some other forums, I will get people who will do that in a post exchange, and I commend them.
For someone like me, I have to rely on RockBand.com, ScoreHero, Google, and social media to get members in.

I was about to say something like that, canadiano as my forum isn't exactly for everyone either. some people find it though, and it does give it a little promotion, but mainly I rely on affiliating with relating forums and search engines

To be perfectly honest as well, I never got a really good package or a post exchange from a promotion forum, mostly because everyone made crappy posts in off-topic forums, which are basically useless when it comes to getting your forum to grow.

You shouldn't really expect posting packages to be the best thing ever. It looks fake from a visitor point of view, as no one just signs up and makes 5 quality posts and then leaves.

To be perfectly honest though, if you wanted good post exchanges, The Admin Zone actually has some really good guys there.

But this won't look genuine from a member point of view.
Scenario: You go down the memberlist and see 10 people have 5 posts. You look at their posts and they are of decent quality, so you would wonder why they haven't returned. Gives a bad impression because people see that after 5 posts, they leave. They wonder, why?
Anyway, post exchanges really do nothing. You could make those 5 posts or even better, topics, which will get others posting.

Of course. You shouldn't rely on Post Exchanges at all. The only one I do right now is an active for active with someone I knew very well there but that's it these days. I do however get free posts because I'm on the Launch Team of The Admin Zone. Now THAT is good for someone whose forum is small.
