    Site Optimization for Technorati

    Niche-market Search Engines

After going through site optimization geared toward the foremost search engines (Google, MSN, and Yahoo!), you can develop your site further. Aside from the big three, various services organize sites according to specificity (as opposed to cataloging the entire World Wide Web).

Promoting your website by using these specifically targeted search engines allows you to pinpoint a particular niche, especially if it is too competitive to significantly rank in the high-tiered search engines. At the very least, it can direct extra traffic to your site.

This type of search engine indexes content according to a certain niche or subject, and thus is virtually aimed at specific audiences. Some of the more popular search engines in this category give visitors the ability to search the Internet for auction sites, blogs, classified ads, etc.

Yes, theoretically, one can employ Yahoo to gather almost any sort of information in whatever format. On the other hand, specialized engines such as eBay or Technorati filters irrelevant search results to a bare minimum. These engines also afford a user inclusion into a group commonly linked to niche search engines.

Surfers who use these niche engines do so through passive and/or active methods. The ‘passive’ visitors utilize these platforms in a typical manner, which is to identify and search for information. ‘Active’ users, conversely, apply these engines in this manner: to submit and promote their weblogs, or products and services.

Technorati: Surfing the World Live Web

Technorati is a specialized Internet search engine, which serves to look for information through blogs. Early 2008 saw the niche engine index more than a hundred million blogs as a well-known resource for fresh information within the World Live Web.

Technorati’s emphasis is on blogs. Users can input information or keywords about a distinct topic, and locate websites with blogs about that subject with this specialized platform. If a weblog manages to position itself high in the engine’s rankings, it’s almost a sure thing that the site traffic will increase drastically. The blog will garner large numbers of new visitors daily, thus engaging more links directed toward your website.

Technorati’s ‘Live Web’ term represents the vigorous, perpetually growing part of the Internet made by its users. Blogs, image-sharing websites, video-sharing websites, and other user-generated content are comprised by this section of the Web. Tecnorati started with (and focuses on) ‘citizen media’ such as blogs, while currently widening its horizons with other kinds of user-generated content.

Technorati’s significant rivals include IceRocket, Google, and Yahoo.

    How it Works

Tecnorati ‘authority’ status can be explained by the practices of the ‘traditional’ search engines. A higher amount of links directed to a blog means greater ‘authority’, or popularity. Active updating of your blog and regular participation within the community results in high Technorati rankings.

Tag specified keywords onto all your blog posts to ensure a showing in Technorati’s search results. The engine’s blog post categorization depends on explanatory keywords and phrases to locate blogs in its index: the 1.5 million fresh blog entries that appear daily.

If some Technorati users input ‘podiatry’ or ‘love’ to search for blog content associated with these subjects, then a ‘foot fetish’ blog post tagged using these keywords will improve its traffic. When a user searches and inputs those terms, this improves the likelihood of your blog’s inclusion in the search rankings. As item rank depends on the date posted, it is necessary to update your blog diligently.

If you manage to happen upon an interesting blog, you can post a link to it from your blog, and that author may swap links with your blog as well. Apply for a Technorati membership and make ‘friends.’ Your ‘friends’ are other Technorati members who can appoint your blog as a ‘favorite’, thus helping increase your rank in the results of the subjects you pen.

    At a Loss?

It is oftentimes difficult to update your site, as the well of inspiration sometimes dries up. Writing fresh and appealing topics every day may be quite difficult due to this.

Virtual salvation comes in the form of Technorati’s ‘Popular’ segment, which shows you the day’s top searches. The top search results can accurately indicate current trends in the blogosphere. If your blog’s theme can even loosely associate with the popular searches, then you can create an informative post about the subject and tag it with related keywords. This can help direct traffic to your blog, with or without a brainstorm.

Victory with Technorati doesn’t come easy. Applying for membership, and sitting back to wait for traffic to magically increase won’t happen just like that. Technorati users check the trends in the community often, so an interesting, ‘topic-ized’ blog entry will draw attention to your website. Consistently observing what is popular, and writing about it fervently today helps your blog’s ‘authority’ the next day. Active participation is the key to becoming a Technorati success story.

Thank you for such a nice article about Technorati. I have a very decent traffic comes from Technorati but I dont have much authority there. The greater the authority, the greater is the rank, right?
