Sound Off: Look who follows no-follow links!

David Leonhardt conducted a brief experiment to determine whether no-follow links really do get indexed.

    His conclusions:

NoFollow links still obviously count at Yahoo....

NoFollow links also appear to count at Google. Or perhaps some do and others don’t, depending on other factors Google might use to rate links from specific domains. However, we can be sure that Google does follow at least some NoFollow links.

After reviewing Mr. Leonhardt's experiment, do you agree with his assessment?

    Why or why not?

I do not know that much about do follow and no follow but I am sure that no follow must count for something.

I've been telling this for ages.
I have a few sites ranking very high for competitive search terms, just because they have wikipedia backlinks.

AppendicitisSymptoms.org's success was mainly due to a Wiki link (which lasted a few months).

I added three links to wikipedia today and two were already removed.

They seem to be removing the links very quickly. Which leads me to believe that Google may be placing value on the links that don't get removed.

I have some nofollow links out there that still help me out.

I have sometimes wondered the exact reasoning behind it. I do believe nofollow links count for something! I have some sites ranking for quality keywords, and they have just a few nofollow links.

The nofollow tag was implemented by Google to fight comment spam

However, the cure has caused other problems.

I wouldn't really call it a cure. Spammers still spam on blogs. If there still spamming on blogs then they must be getting some decent % return of links for their efforts. I just came across this blog post that has spam on it for example. Prime example of no-prevention.

The cure is prevention and to fight back! Dont allow this on your sites.
And report spam email to spamcop.net

Some spammers don't know that the links are nofollow and they target pages that have pr.

They also must be getting some clicks. So that another reason to spam for links.
