I wanted to know, is it easy for an article to rank high on squidoo/hubpages when compared to a similar(not same) article on a new site, few weeks old???
The condition being that the link building effort is same for both.

I'd say a page on Hubpages or Squidoo would be more easier to rank considering the fact that their domains have quite an authority as compared to a newly established site.
You can never predict the outcome after doing Seo but due some very obvious facts, i'd stick to Hubpages/squidoo to be on the winning side.
I like very much the spirit of Squidoo which give the possibility to give money made from their advertising system on your lenses to charity organizations.
As far as SEO, the advantage of Squidoo is to be able to control your lenses, and update your backlinks.
I don't expect my lenses to rank high but it is an opportunity to be discovered by the Squidoo community which is another exposure area.
I would say squidoo and or hubpages are easier to rank, I can tell from personal experience, 2 of my websites get consistent traffic from both of them :) of course as you've mentioned it your self, you need to build enough backlinks on them, the keyword here is "enough"...
cheers,
Which out of these both is good for affiliate puposes?? I want to promote a product and instead of creating a one page site on it, I thought I would put it up on squidoo or hubpage with my aff link..i heard hubpages doesnt allow promoting stuff in their hubs..is that right??
I guess technically speaking there would be no real difference, especially when it comes to talking about how to gain ranks in some very competitive niches across the net which as you may guess could only get approached via some high quality sites loaded with many incoming backlinks. Using your own domain can be very cool because you would be having your site, personalized business email address and also you would not worry about whether or not it will remain online for ever.
I would agree that sites like Squidoo and Hubpages are easier. Some webmasters who focus on promoting their affiliate products on these sites are actually making good sales.
