Submitting PR to Google News - worth it?

There are a few services which guarantee inclusion of Press Release in Google News. Has anyone ever tried such service? What are the benefits of getting a PR published in Google News, except a few visitors for a few days?

It's actually really worth it as many blogs/sites syndicate Google News content, which means you'll get a few extra backlinks for your site.

Agreed. Much like how websites always try to get on Digg for the same reason.

Although I'd be interested in seeing how a service could guarantee inclusion when there are some things Google News probably wouldn't accept. If anyone knows how this works I'd love to hear it

They write Press Release keeping those things in mind, and then they use some service (newswire or something) for submitting PR to Google News and similar sites.

For some reason I think that Google itself would frown on such a service and those who did follow this route would be penalized in some way

I've been doing it for a long time and never had any problems with it, I guess it depends on where you post the articles to get them published on Google news.

I would say that it's worth it. I usually write a press release about new site, submit it to prweb.com and get it in Google News and on a bunch of other sites...this gives you the "authority" or "trust" to get better rankings.
