As for my self, apart of "drink beer" part I do the same, post in blog and post in forums... it works really... especially forums, such as this one...

I manage to reach position 2 - 5 in google SERPs within 1 week for some keywords...

I strongly believe in On Page SEO works..it really works for us...Don't trying to keep lots of unnecessary links from directories and other blogs. Try to get quality and valuable links from genuine sites which Google likes.

It will sure works as per my experience....I see many webmaster offers thousands of directory submissions but I dont think it works good...Anyways, Carry on good works.

Hi coolbloggerman, would you mind to tell me the "genuine sites which Google likes" kind of sites?

I mean, as far as I concern directory submissions never give any significant impact to my site's traffic.

you can create affliates, who will promote your products and give links.

create blogs on free blogging platforms. Target a specific keyword for each of your webpage or pages.

2 or 4 way link exchange from different websites.

create new websites with differnt IP's with good keyword rich domains(2,3,4 word domains with or with out-) and content to boost your main site or particular section of the site. Automation helps here.

create your own directories on differnt ips and create your own specific categories or sub-categories (bit of content explaining the category) to target specific pages of your website. covering all the pages of the site.

Slow & natural looking link flow will cover all the sins according to google.

Follow your competitors and try to find from where they are getting links. The chances are, you too can get links from those places. Its not a great tip, but works like a charm

Also start bugging people on IM's to do link exchange with you, I have seen this technique working for people who have loads of sites.

Last year I had put a link and traffic building list (which I shamelessly plugs everywhere). I am sure this will help noobs to get all the link building methods at one place
