    Top Ten Organic SEO Myths
    Myth 1: You should submit your URLs to search engines.
    Myth 2: You need a Google Sitemap.
    Myth 3: You need to update your site frequently
    Myth 4: PPC ads will help/hurt rankings.
    Myth 5: Your site will be banned if you ignore Google’s guidelines.
    Myth 6: Your site will be banned if you buy links.
    Myth 7: H1 (or any header tags) must be used for high rankings.
    Myth 8: Words in your meta keyword tag have to be used on the page.
    Myth 9: SEO copy must be 250 words in length.
    Myth 10: You need to optimize for the long tail.

    myth 3 : no need to do it frequently....just concentrate on your quality content. I can make 1000 post in a month....but it's not quality post. So, don't need to update frequently but high quality (2 article per month but high quality is OK)

    myth 9 : can you explain what the meaning of SEO copy? I didn't understand

    I would like very much to see your references for that, because I know as a matter of fact that #5 and 6 aren't myths at all. If you don't follow Google's rules, you might be lucky and remain clean, but there are strong chances that you get sandboxed.

    Headers tags are important, and a sitemap makes it easier for an SE to crawl your site.

    Don't throw affirmations just like that.

  4. @Nic I think by guidelines he mean't those optimization tips which Google gives. actually nothing really happens if you buy links or do not follow those rules, they just affect PR but they don't ban you.

    Yes it does. JohnChow.com got banned from Google for that exact reason.

    but why in other thread about mogul, i ever read that john chos site is banned because he sell text link?

    of course, not all myth is just a myth, some of them is real. But the problem is, there is a pros and cons about it. There is people believe, and there is a people who didn't believe it...

    And it become hard to know the truth, when any SE such google, choose to keep their alogarithm and method to place site on SERP as a secret

    Myth 1: You should submit your URLs to search engines.
    Do you mean to be listed? No need ..if your site is good, people will link to your site, and SE will automatically index your site.


    Myth 2: You need a Google Sitemap.
    In way to make your site indexed properly is yes. But in way to get top ranking, it's depend on how you're manage your site and seo-ing your site.

    Myth 3: You need to update your site frequently
    Already explained. No need...

    Myth 4: PPC ads will help/hurt rankings.
    Yes this is fast way to advertise and get targetted traffic. And i ever hear, adword player is listed rapidly and get good position on google SERP. But i think it's just a myth, since if it's right, many people already do it.

    Myth 5: Your site will be banned if you ignore Google’s guidelines.
    Depend on which guideliness. And the punishment is depend on which guideliness that you igonore.

    Myth 6: Your site will be banned if you buy links.
    Just a myth i think. But become strange, when we heard about john chow case

    Myth 7: H1 (or any header tags) must be used for high rankings.
    No need. That's depend on many factor, not just H1. even, with no H1, you can get top rank if you manage it well.

    Myth 8: Words in your meta keyword tag have to be used on the page.
    It's just your choice to place it or no on the page

    Myth 9: SEO copy must be 250 words in length.
    I didn't understand about SEO copy. What is it?

    Myth 10: You need to optimize for the long tail.
    In way to get not too tight competition is yes. But not become guarantee you will get top ranking.
