Use Telephone Number in Meta Title Tag?

It appears to be a good idea for a business. People can see the telephone number in the title and phone. So the questions are:

    (1) Will Google like this? I don't see any sites in the search results with a phone # in the title tag.
    (2) Will the phone # in the title dilute the SEO benefits of the tag?

As google officially discarded meta tagging. But still, it holds importance (as far as I see and other people do too) But if you're least bothered about seo, it is a great idea and direct call to your audience if you can somehow merge with a keyword/call to action/phone no..

Will Google like this? I don't see any sites in the search results with a phone # in the title tag.

It's not in title tag but in meta at many sites -

    Google

(note the phone no. as well as email ids in some)
    (2) Will the phone # in the title dilute the SEO benefits of the tag?

Well, yes I think. That's I said above, if somehow you can add your keywords too.

And Google allows at least 8-9 words in title tag. An idea worth testing!

    Hi,

I found this info on your question.

Adding the phone number in the title tag (as well as meta description) might also make sense (both FireFox and IE will make the phone numbers clickable within the search results to make the listing stand out and thus more clicked )

Good idea to add the phone number to the keyword in the description meta tag.

The issue with this website is that it's a geo site. Many of the keywords are location+keyword and to compound the problem there are 5 towns within 10 blocks and 10+ towns within two miles. So, adding the phone # to the kw won't work in this case. As there ire too many kewyords to target.

I'm not using a description tag on the site to allow Google to take the snippet from the body of the page. Even with the snippet the keyword may not appear due to semantic search which adds to the difficulty.

I got a good suggestion from the article which is to put the telephone number on the top and to the right.

The business is a "yellow page" type business where people generally call for the service. The problem is that due to local search results appearing above people may not bother opening the site. Thus adding the telephone number to the title would help level the playing field. I read somewhere about an experiment using the phone # in the title and the site dropped out of the SERPS. So, I'm hesitant to take the chance.

What would that accomplish? You cannot connect to a phone number by clicking on the link unless you have some type of VoIP system on your PC.

I have seen sites that use an 800 phone number in the HTML title tag. However, I think it is a bad idea. The HTML title tag is used to create the focus for your keyword theme. Unless you think someone is going to search for a site using a phone number, placing the number in the title tag would be a bad idea.

If you are going to use a phone number in the HTML title tag, it should be placed on the right side so as not to dilute the keyword theme focus and the title tag should be less than 60 characters in length so that the number displays in the SERPs.

If a business wants phone calls, I think it is a good idea to place the number on every page in a prominent location, such as just above the menu in a column.

This is great, I know when looking for local businesses this is great because having the click able links allows me to easily call them using skype

As far as I know, it doesn't give you skype calling option in title tag.. But only in description tag.

I hate the bastards putting their phone numbers in Adword ads...

They are converted to Skype links as well stiffing me for the clicks on my Adsense sites.

I usually put them in my competitor filter if I see them.
