I backed it up...I think, but I dont understand all the instructions for installing the new version. I am using version 2.0.2 and I guess I have to download the stuff then upload it via FTP.
I dont know what I am doing. I tried to install the auto. upgrade plugin, but it didnt work.

Backup your DB and all of your files before the upgrade.
WordPress is a security nightmare if you don't keep on top of the upgrades.
This is essential! I run quite a few wordpress based sites. You really need to make sure you stay ontop of keeping wordpress updated. Never run an older version of wordpress, its been updated for a reason!
As Shawn says, your better off over at the offical wordpress forums, they have a massive database of knowlege.

Yes I agree. I am also running several WP blogs however I will not recommend to upgrade straight away when a new version released, check your plugins 1st, if they support the latest WP version then go ahead, otherwise your WP site will look or act funny, believe me I know (I had to closed down my online store for 3 days because of this)

As Will said, obviously someone screwed your WP install , I don't know if you over-write your current WP install with the latest version will help, but you can follow the instruction here Upgrading WordPress WordPress Codex . I have upgraded a few of my WP installs following that instruction without any problems, if you install your WP using fantastico or simplescripts then there should be no problem, simply go to your fantastico / simplescript control panel and then select upgrade and you're done.
I get these problems almost everyday. Drop me a pm if you need my help. But what you really need to get done is to backup your database, reinstall wordpress and upgrade plugins as well.
