What is the difference between backlinks and indexed pages?

Hi guys,

I just did a link search for the site NewGenre Software and BPO Solutions

I don't understand the difference. Could you please explain

Number of pages that are indexed:

Google: 13
Yahoo: 0
MSN: 1
AltaVista: 8
AllTheWeb: 8

Backlinks

The total number of pages that contain links to:

Google: 7
Yahoo: 118
AltaVista: 131
AllTheWeb:132

Number of indexed pages are pages that Google discovered on your site and indexed them for showing. Number of existing page dont need to be same as number of indexed pages.

Number of backlinks are number of webpages that contain links to your site.
In this are counted your subpages too.

Google only shows a small portion of a sites backlinks. If you own the site use webmaster tools to check the backlinks which is more accurate.

Yeah, you are right google is not at all showing all the backlinks. Are you telling about google webmaster tools or? I am a bit confused too, because different tools showing me different Results for the same site. Could you please mention a standard tool for checking it? At least the one which can give some what accurate results?

Google webmaster tools is the most accurate. Have you signed up?

Am already using google webmaster tools. While seeing the details it is showing that 280 sites are linked to the site. But I don't know what it means.

It means that 280 other pages on the Internet are linking to your site.

Probably a lot of those links are from NetBuilders.

Yeah I could found one link from netbuilders too...Before while checking for backlinks one link was showing from netbuilders. But now no links from net builders. Don't know why.
