Thread: What is a NoFollow Link?

NoFollow links are not read by the Search Engines.

This is done in the coding of the site and prevents the links from being followed (rel=”nofollow”).


The reason why NoFollow links exists is that it cuts down the number of spammers on the site.

Spammers put comments on your website or blog with their links within trying to earn backlinks and for the PR juice.

If you link to these spam sites, you will also face the penalty that Google gives.

Whether you lose PR or your site will not be indexed and that’s not a very nice thing, it’s like you are not existing at all.

it's just tells the website we are giving the link but we don't recommend the site. so this link is not counted by the search engine.

No follow links are those pages that is not being crawled by search engines bot. Although in SEO it gives a lot of referral traffic into one site.

They are an improvement on links that newspaper sites include in their articles that lack the HTML anchor link code when referencing other websites that are not in a business relationship with them.

wow, i started this thread last year and i havent seen it in awhile. that was a couple of months after i started joining SEO sites and promoting my site. ive had my forum for years and am in a very convenient position. i have a celeb pic forum, always have High Quality pics without tags or watermarks, and post everyone of my links on IMDB, The Internet Movie Database, like 10 to 15 a day. it brings me hundreds of visitors everyday, noone ever joins and posts, yea its lonely but i started the forum just because i loved giving people HQ pics. i continue everyday and maybe someday members will start posting.

i have thousands and thousands of backlinks on the net, and have a PR1. so ive pretty much given up on trying to come up with backlinks but im always happy to join a new forum and have a link, whether its nofollow or dofollow. someone is going to see it and visit my site and thats what i want, visitors. ive learned where my situation is pretty much when it comes to promoting and SEO or whatever, and ive got a good handle on my keywords. i have my niches quality content and i think a nice atmosphere for members. just waiting for some regular posters

No follow links are what you should not waste your time on. google, yahoo, and bing will not index them.

Again, I see more webmasters here post so negative about no follow links.
I am thinking, these webmasters are just too dumb or they follow some idiot who posted that no follow links are useless links.

Geesh, can't believe the level of idiocy shown by so many so-called webmasters when it comes to links and link building.

NoFollow Link has a special HTML Code inside that tells the Search Engines like Google to not follow the destination inside the link. It allows you to create a link that works just like any other one, but it is not considered in the search algorithm.

A link of your website on other's site is a vote to your website and for no-follow links, you will not get any link-juice and would not help in improving your PageRank. By the way, if no-follow links are placed on high-traffic websites which can help in generation of traffice, it's worth it.
