Red face Why page rank is given importance while buying links

    Hi all,

All the links I find in webmaster forums are bought based on the page rank of a site. What is the main reason behind it. A site with a good page rank might not be getting good visitors. For example, I have a site that is page rank 0 and gets about 200 uniques a day. Other site which is page rank 2 gets not more than 50 uniques. If people are buying links just for backlinks, they can do it through blog posting right? Whey spend so much money on a high PR site that doesn't have quality traffic? Can anyone please clarify that?

Pagerank used to be a factor that got a lot of weight from Google in their algorithm to rank sites in their search results. As of today, these algorithms have been changed and PR is getting pretty useless, but IMO it's still a pretty good factor to work on

But like you said, if I had to choose between low PR, but possible big revenue or high PR, but less possible revenue I'd definitely go for money instead of PR.

PR in the toolbar hasn't been updated in a year. Kind of crazy to rely on it. It's like betting on a sports team based on the 2009-2010 season record.

The last Pagerank update being on April 3rd 2010, roughly 9 & 1/2 months back, i wouldn't keep my hopes too high if I were you. The weird thing is that Google hasn't made any official announcement either, so it's still kinda early to make any assumptions as of now.

Pagerank isn't based on the amount of visitors you get, it's based on the number of pagerank from pages linking to your website

    Hi,

    Because they are fools.

PR is worthless IMO I want traffic to my sites. I would much rather have an advertisement on a site that is PR 2 with 10,000 UV a mo. Then paying for a PR6 site that has 500 UV a mo.

And your per-page PageRank can be set to zero if "they" suspect you are selling links on particular pages, although that does not affect your search engine ranking.
