Yep. We're making an attempt at resolving the TopBits performance issues. We'll see what happens.

I'm moving TopBits in and out of production frequently. Here's why.

The initial goal was to move TopBits into production and keep it there -- forever. Unfortunately, technical issues forced us to take it out of production.

We've resolved the technical issues -- except one. When we push TopBits into production, the CPU load average rises above 700 and the server runs out of RAM and swap space. This makes the server crash.

So that's a pretty serious technical issue.

The issue isn't with Joolma, per se. The issue is with JoomFish, specifically with JFDatabase.

We've spent most of the last ten days troubleshooting this issue and trying to resolve it. I estimate that we're going to give it another four days and then it's decision time.

I apologize for the difficulties this transition has caused, and is causing, but in the long run it will mean more visitors to your proxy sites.

But may I ask what`s the good point of moving website to topbits? tech-faq has thousands of backlinks, ranks very good at google etc..

TopBits will be a 301 redirect of Tech-FAQ. The page ranks will be preserved, and TopBits will capitalize on that!

  • We're upgrading from a static site to a CMS so that we can add content much more quickly.
  • We're rebranding so that we can add articles that aren't strictly "FAQ" related.
  • We're adding features like a forum which will make TopBits more "sticky", which makes us less reliant on Google for traffic.

The Google SERPS for the proxy related terms seem to be the same as before, but I think I was seeing a drop before the switch. If the SERPS are the same and yet traffic to each individual proxy is less, that logically means that submissions have increased.

We're thinking of ways to decrease submissions -- but most of them involve coding new features into the script. That's not a quick process any more.
