    New Registration System

Received few minutes ago an email about the new changes, from what i understood we must pay 1$ / proxy submitted ? If so, i think is really ok, finally i will be able to get some traffic without buying 100 domains ...

We are less than a week away from implementing a new registration and payment system at The Tech FAQ Proxy List.

Many people have asked for us to provide paid listings – but that’s not why we’re doing it.

We are also not doing this for the money – in fact we’re only charging $1 per proxy submission.

Why are we doing this then?

We’re doing this to reduce spam and to improve the quality of the list.

Once this change is implemented, you will need to register an account – with email validation – and pay $1 to list your proxy.

$1 is nowhere near the value of a listing, but we’re not doing this to make money. We expect the email validation and the token payment to reduce spam to the list by well over 99%.

In addition, because this move will reduce the number of listings in our database the value of each individual listing will rise considerably.

Can’t afford to pay $1? Join the Tech FAQ Proxy List Support Forum at NetBuilders.org and we’ll talk about ways to get FREE coupons so that you don’t have to pay at all.

Or, get busy and submit all of your proxies before we implement the new system.

    Will

Any chance the system will be purged when the new one goes into place? So can list some of our sites again that have already been added once?

I was about to post about this, but you beat me to it.

I've received a couple of good questions via email:

    1) What exactly do you consider "spam"? Isn't a proxy site just a proxy site?

90% of the spam we've been getting are sites that get immediately converted to Sedo listings. The other 10% are porn or affiliate pages.

    2) Does paying $1 guarantee a listing?

$1 is the submission fee. It doesn't guarantee a listing. We're making it harder for sites to get de-listed due to short outages. But, parked pages and porno sites will not be listed -- even if they pay $1.

Sorry man, that would work completely against the sites goal of providing the newest freshest unblocked proxies to it's visitors.

I think it's a good move. Any chance / method to reward better proxies? Usually these are from webmasters who are seriously in to proxy business. Sorted list according to alexa would be a one approach.

PS. Actually I think you made a good move.

The Alexa method would not work, because new fresh proxies won't have Alexa ratings.

But, there will be a method for rewarding NetBuilders. Nathan has built an entire "coupon" system into this update. I forsee every proxy owner who has been a contributing member here in the support forum receiving a nice coupon code.

The real purpose of the $1 fee is to be able to identify people by their PayPal ID's. I know you guys already.

Cheers, and thanks for the fast email reply Will. Should be good, as traffic from here is always good and solid. =)

I always felt like I was spamming when I submitted new sites because of how many I had and I worried so I always changed my email up. But now I see that isn't the case and that you define "spam" as other sites that are not proxy sites.

    Yippee

You must have received a hundred copies of the email I sent.

The way I see it, "spam" is defined by the site visitors. They are looking for proxies. Anything that gives them what they want is good.

A coupon system is a smart move

I'm not talking about new proxies on alexa. It's about a section for older established proxies, which you can easily identify by domain whois + page rank etc.
