    PHP Autoresponder Script

I have written a PHP autoresponder script that is almost ready to ship. If you are interested in obtaining a free copy, you can subscribe now to the email notification list. By subscribing you will be one of the first users of the system so it's possible that there may be some bug that I didn't notice.

I am busy with activities this weekend, so don't have much time to package the code and write documentation. But if you get on the notification list, you will be one of the first people to get hold of the autoresponder when it is ready for download.

The code runs stand-alone on any PHP hosting or local host machine. Also, I will include a WordPress plugin for use with blogs.

Maybe it can replace your monthly subscription cost to a 3rd party autoresponder service?

The sending part uses an SMTP server such as you get with cPanel hosting.

You can send timed sequences of emails, and broadcast emails to your list. Also, the subscribe, confirm, and unsubscribe features are automated.

I just signed up. List building is one of my target areas this year.

I will be glad to help test this.

It might be useful to add a version number to the zip file name so that people do not repeatedly download the same version. Example: autoresponder-1.0.zip

I think that I have tested and de-bugged everything now (it is much more complex than my previous download script). Just need to write up some notes about how to set it up, and get the download implemented.

I much prefer to host my own email autoresponder rather than have some other company control my list on their servers for a monthly fee.

To make it free, I have implemented minimal admin interfaces, since that makes it much more time-consuming, and tedious to code. I love to code the "engine" part of scripts. I like minimalism, and putting a brake on the never-ending enhancement of software. Also, once it does what it says on the tin, it is time to create something else.

The script is now released. I sent out an email with the download link to subscribers. New subscribers can download the script too.

Hmmm. I did not get the e-mail.

I checked GMail and found that it got snagged as spam.

Maybe because I sent mails to gmail too frequently? Like my own gmail account and your one within a few minutes. If you can tag it as not spam it may help.

So, did you get the download link?

The only way that I will deploy the code (lots of code that took a long time to craft) is via an email download link. Otherwise I am wasting my time.

GMail snags a lot of e-mail, although most of it is bonafide spam. All it takes it the the word "free" to trigger most spam systems. The word free is in the download link, so that may be triggering it.

I flagged it as "not spam". Be sure to let us know when another update comes out and I will check to see it it gets snagged again.

I did get the link. I will test the new version as soon as I get some time. Thanks.

I started to write the documentation for the script and will be blogging about different aspects of it and the reasoning behind design decisions.

To start with, I published a post about the autoresponder features.

Wow, hardly anyone has downloaded my FREE autoresponder software that I spent several weeks coding. It works, and can save you around $240 per year maybe in paid solution cost?

"The money is in the list" folks.

Subscribe to test it out, and hence download: PHP autoresponder script

Give it time. Rome was not built in a day. Not everyone has technical skills or is looking to test new software. If this was an established package with a good history, you would get a larger response.

Personally, I think anything that helps to diminish our dependence on Google is a good thing.
