Banned on Google: The 1,400 words you can't use

    Why, Google, you’re a prude!
On the latest version of Android, the predictive text won’t recognize the words “sex,” “intercourse” or “screwing,” among others.
Poking around the source code, Wired magazine discovered an “obsessive” and “baffling” list of 1,400 words — many naughty, some just weird — that Google wants to protect its users from seeing.
The list includes “coitus” and a few more variations on knocking boots, plus some medical and anatomy terms and slightly racy words such as “panty.”
“Taken as a whole,” Wired concludes, “Google’s list suggests not only a surprising discomfort with sexuality, but also reproductive health and undergarments.”
There’s even a whiff of self-loathing. Two nonsexy words that offend Google Keyboard are “geek” and “Chromebook”— the latter being the name for the firm’s own line of laptops.
Users can still type any dirty word onto an Android screen themselves, but must do so the traditional way — every letter, from start to finish. That means overriding the keyboard when it tries to volunteer something cleaner. “Condom,” for example, will become “condition” if you let it. The solution, says Wired, is to go into the app’s settings menu and disable the word-blocking filter. Then you can have all the “coitus” you like.

Whoever banned the rest banned "geek" in self-defense.

    From the article:

They lie. I tried this trick a few days ago and it still hasn't worked at all.

Rob...so far the NSA, FBI, WTF, have yet to do that to my blog.
Maybe because I am in Iowa and you are still in Texas?
So you should be blaming Rick Perry for your problems.

But yes, once in a while I see certain government agencies drop by my blog to check it out.

I should post those 1400 words and see what google does or says about that fact.

I won't be famous until 'IowaDawg' is a banned word.

Write a couple of negative articles about Google and you may get your wish.

I've had a number of people report that my blog is blocked at their workplace, so though I haven't pissed off Google entirely I've apparently hit the radar of whichever 3-letter acronym agency is labeling those subversive right-wing sites as being "harmful". Hell, I have so few readers it's sorta sad to find out that one of them is the NSA.

    Tried that.
    Did not work.

Maybe I should start a campaign on forums and my blogs.
    All anti-google stuff.

But really, how many people know of or could care less about the 1400 words?
Or what google does or does not do?

It is just the predictive suggestions. The words still work in searches.

When someone starts searching for 'sex', they probably do not want to suggest 'sex with children' or something similar that may be in the news.

    Hi,

So what are the 1,400 words? So if google post the list of the words you can't use, would that mean it would self ban its own site?

Let see how many adult sites get banned from google? My guess is they will still show up in the search.
