Google Drive Cloud Storage Coming Soon

Google is expected to announce a new cloud storage service in both a free and paid version. The free version will allow up to 5 gb of free online storage and the paid version up to 100 gb. The service will also provide search capabilities to sort images and PDF files.

    Great.
    Can see the headlines now:
    GOOGLE CLOUD DOWN FOR HOURS.
    SCADS OF SITES LOST?

  3. I read an article yesterday (can't remember where) that said with Googles terms and conditions, when you upload to their new storage service you are basically handing over ownership of your data to them (unlike some of the other similar services which say you retain all ownership rights (like Dropbox)

If you remember where you saw this, please post a link. It would not surprise me if it is true. Their new TOS says that they can basically do whatever they want with any data obtained from the use of their services.

    I can see this headline:

GOOGLE SHARING GOOGLE DRIVE DATA WITH GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

I think I will pass on this one if there aren't any guarantees for data security.

Here's a couple of good articles on the subject:

    1) Cloud computing: Legal standards up in the air - CSMonitor.com

With a computer in your home, you'd have to be served a warrant for legal access to your hard drive. But with remote storage, you may not know whether a subpoena or warrant has been served on the cloud service provider.

    2) Google Drive says it may 'publicly perform' your files. What's that mean? - CSMonitor.com

It seems that Google can do anything that they want with the data that you upload to Google Drive.

As I was saying.... their new TOS makes this a privacy nightmare.

I am glad someone thinks it is such a good deal!

    Me?
I try to avoid google as much as possible.
So I will bypass this one for sure.

  9. I've tried Google Drive, and it's a lot like Google Docs. The only problem I have is that you can only upload single files, and not one entire folder at a time.

Google is getting closer to the end. It had had run too much. And people still fall on it. They shouldn't get even more control of people's data.
