Google seeks to dismiss Gmail privacy lawsuit

Google seeks to dismiss Gmail privacy lawsuit, says it has right to scan correspondence

Google's attorneys say their long-running practice of electronically scanning the contents of people's Gmail accounts to help sell ads is legal, and are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to stop the practice. In court records filed in advance of a federal hearing scheduled for Thursday in San Jose, Google argues that "all users of email must necessarily expect that their emails will be subject to automated processing."
The class action lawsuit, filed in May, says Google "unlawfully opens up, reads, and acquires the content of people's private email messages" in violation of California's privacy laws and federal wiretapping statutes. The lawsuit notes that the company even scans messages sent to any of the 425 million active Gmail users from non-Gmail users who never agreed to the company's terms.

Sounds like facebook, and every other site on the net.

Oh, and of course governments throughout the world.

Google does have a right to scan GMail according to the TOS that everyone was forced to accept in March of 2012. The problem with that is very few people read a mile-long TOS and they were automatically opted in if they tried to ignore it.

The intent of the TOS change was obviously to avoid losing law suits like this one. Way back then I said that the change was intended to cover their little asses due to their relationship with the NSA and a secret program that was spying on Americans.

I should probably stop talking about this. There is a black helicopter hovering over my home tight now.

As I have said all along. Nothing that Google offers is truly free. The price you pay is the information they collect about you. Their Chrome browser is probably the worst case of spyware out there, and you could not give me an Android phone.

I don't have anything from google, so it is pretty simple.

Some of this crap is getting bizarre. There are now sites that you cannot join without agreeing to share all information about your Facebook contacts, which is something I refuse to do.

These sites sharing your information for money looks like internet scavengers if you ask me.

"Scavengers" is too nice of a word. "Whores" is more appropriate.

I have Google Chrome installed on my computer. I only use it to see how a site looks in Chrome. Should I delete it?
