Thread: Microsoft Finally Gets Yahoo!!!!

  1. Microsoft Finally Gets Yahoo!!!!

SAN FRANCISCO – Microsoft Corp. has finally roped Yahoo Inc. into an Internet search partnership, capping a convoluted pursuit that dragged on for years and setting the stage for them to make a joint assault against the dominance of Google Inc. The 10-year deal announced Wednesday gives Microsoft access to the Internet's second-largest search engine audience, beefing up the software maker's arsenal as it tries to better confront Google, which is by far the leader in online search and advertising. Microsoft didn't have to give Yahoo an upfront payment to make it happen, as many Yahoo investors had been counting on ever since Microsoft dangled $1 billion last summer in an attempt to forge a search partnership then.
YES FINALLY!!! Now hopefully they make a great push at a super strong number two in the search market and bring some more balance to the SE field!! Microsoft, Yahoo team up to ding Google with Bing - Yahoo! News

Yes, as much as some of our number might adore Google, we must remember that competition is a Good Thing. Recall what happens when there's no competition: stagnation, pestulence, and abominatorics.

It is good that the deal has finally happened, but I really wonder what has brought about the change in Yahoo to accept it now, having refused a more lucrative deal last year?

  5. With Yahoo shutting down their search engine, a large number of aftermarket SEO tools which rely upon the Yahoo API for data will disappear.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

As per this 10 year deal, search on Yahoo's websites will be generated by Microsoft's Bing search engine and MS's adcentre will also replace Yahoo's Panama.

I guess the deal should work really well as Yahoo has a relatively good audience while MS has a better product in Bing!

If one plus one indeed adds up to two, together they would hold roughly 30% of the US search market, still lagging way behind google's share of 78%!
Looks like... even though it is small but it surely is an important first step!

Agreed, but Google's share of the search market has been slowly dipping over the past few months, and I'm sure Bing put a smallish dent in their market so hopefully MS doesn't screw it up/

I always felt Yahoo's search engine is better than msn's/bing.

IMO, It would have been better if MS merged it's internet business with Yahoo and then take full control of Yahoo.
note: when you replace this, dont use masked URL. thanks ~ admin

True. I like the Yahoo! API. I was just thinking last night about how I need to use the Images one for a feature on my next project. Doens't look like that will be happening...
