Google just create a new kind of spamming work, the puppeteers. So we are going to see fake social accounts, with gangs of puppeteer talking each others to try to promote A, B, C, etc

Man it is going to be fun to rank, it seems like Google opened a giant breach for unethical techniques.

It looks like a logical step forward and it's going to be fun for the 'general public'.

I agree. There will always be people who are going to play the system. Blackhatters who will develop better software that can create many social accounts, other software that can start and keep conversations going. In the end fake accounts will claim a large portion of social networks.

Social search is definitely something to watch. We have to be aware of its flaws so we can use it to our full advantage.

Exactly right Loko. Their agorithms are already not perfect, they just had more stuffs they barely handle, if it is manipulated by some "experts" it will be more destructive, hey that's just my opinion

When I see this video I am thinking that Google is going personal.

For example, you are on FB and you are talking to your friends, then few days later your social posts are going global on public friends audience in the Google index. If you are the poster would you want everyone to be able to see what you said to your close friends? That's my question

I don't know what's "unethical" about this. Calling this "unethical" is a real exaggeration. Again, is it unethical for you to enter into partnerships with others, to roll out new services and products according to your vision, to pursue your own interests? If not, then why the double standard? There's a big difference between something unethical and something you and I don't like or even something most people don't like or something that doesn't follow your or mine interests.

That said, I'm not sure what to think of personalization and these "filter bubbles". I get the dangers of it, but if algorithms are really trying to provide you with information based on who you really are then if you are the kind of person who likes to read opposing views to your own then isn't that what it's gonna keep showing? I mean, to some extent you yourself would create a filter bubble for yourself if algorithms didn't do it for you simply because of the sheer amount of information out there (information overload) and the fact you have limited time and limited interests.

Secondly, not every site is personalized. Platforms such as Facebook and Google may be, but they aren't necessarily your only sources of daily content. If they are, then this is more of a problem of over-consolidation than of personalization, and is something every individual who over-consolidates contributes to.

One way or another, platforms like Google and Facebook will to some extent be able to decide what you see or don't see on their domains because that's pretty much what they're here for as the managers of the information overload, middlemen between you and the universe of content out there. That's why they have value, and why we use them.
