Surely I would not as I started receiving good amount of comments for my posts. But if it was a blogspot blog I would recommend switching off comments.

I love akismet and All in one SEO pack. Akismet does great job without it my blog would become a scam.

Farrhad really has a lots of experience in it. TBP really rocks with Multi authors. I feel if you have more authors then it would help you a lot in implementing more great ideas.

I used to use IE 6 when I was in 2nd standard. Then I realised that there are lots of other great browsers. Its really boring to use IE6

I use hostgator. 105% happy with their services. No probs occur with them.

If you are not more budget conscious then I would recommend custom themes. But I see only more of premium themes around the blogosphere. Anyway it depends on the budget according to me.
