The problem with this kind of marketing mind set is that "Insufficient credibility undermines digital marketing" you don't create credibility from marketing contents on all your web pages except if you are yourself a marketer.

Again, though I know all the people have to make a living, stuff like that makes too many webmasters do bad stuff or not want to write at all.
I am still a firm believer in, if you have a blog, who the crap cares what you write, when you write it and how you write it.
It is your readers that matter.
Not google, not some site telling you how to write, or to please some webmaster.

I do my blogs without worrying or stressing about google, whether sites will pick up my blogs, or anything like that.
I just do it for my readers.
    PERIOD!

Like you said "everybody have to make a living"... the question that anyone should ask is that you can market as much as you want, you have to be talented (or use talended people working for you) to sell a service or create contents for selling ads and be successful or selling products that people are looking for. If you don't have these two factors, even with all you can spend in marketing, it will be very difficult to achieve success.
