The value is placed on bitcoin by the people buying and selling bitcoins.
Remember, there is only a certain amount of bitcoins.
That amount does not increase or decrease because of value.
Or because someone may want to buy more than there is.

Unlike fiat money....where the nearest printer is working overtime to print more.
And there is NOTHING backing any physical money except for the governments and financial institutions promising to pay so much for each piece of paper.

But no one backs bitcoins and no one promises to pay anything, which is what makes bitcoins more volatile and controversial.

I am surprised that any online merchants recognize bitcoins.

    Why should we buy Bitcoins?

Bitcoin Flash Crashes, Drops By 80% In Seconds

Now that Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox has terminally discredited itself following the latest, and likely last, withdrawal halt announced late last week which sent the value of Bitcoin tumbling by 25%, Bitcoin traders are left with just two exchange options on which to transact: BTC-e and Bitstamp. And for those using the former to buy and sell the virtual digital currency, things went from bad to worse a few short hours ago, when Bitcoin had its very own "Waddell and Reed" moment, when the price of Bitcoin cratered by over 80% in the span of seconds, after a modest block of just under 6000 Bitcoins sent the price plunging from over $600 to $102.

Ok let me rephrase it, Why should we use Bitcoins?

Personally I prefer the Swiss Franc, a damn pretty stable money if you ask me

    Been watching that.
Interesting on other forums the people who love bitcoin and pushed it daily.
Then the naysayers, like me, getting bombed for saying "Don't invest" "sell" blah blah.

Then what will be fun to see in the next few days or months?
The domainers who regged all sorts of bitcoin domains in hopes of reselling for big bucks.
Some bitcoin domains went for big bucks.
Now I think the buyers of bitcoin domains, bitcoin sites? Are seeing the investment swirl down the drain!
