What the world of webmasters needs now is a marketplace that is free or almost free where the administration at least tries to keep frauds and scams out.
Being the best should not be hard considering the alternatives.
The focus needs to be there.
I rather be a part of something I can be proud of than say I am helping at the biggest forum and get emails about people scamming all day.

I believe in something minimal like $1 if you sell something.
When people pay any amount, they are forced to give up their real identity, which in return is going to cut down on potential scams and frauds BIG TIME.

right now is a need to have a market place where people can buy sites not worrying if it's the real owner they're sending money to, they can sell a site not worrying if they will get a paypal charge back due to the buyer using a stolen credit card etc.
DP has an "anything goes" policy, and the truth is that you as a forum admin cannot get yourself involved in legal matters.
but still, learning from what others have made mistakes with is a must, and I believe that the most important thing about a market place is indeed to eliminate the scams and overall save members a lot of hassle and money.

Will, how about starting an escrow (no, not escort) service too?

I think it may be wiser for us to simply recommend some of the existing escrow services.

    Too many fees!

How about having middle-men (i.e. someone that receives the payment, then once the buyer confirms that the seller has sent them the goods, the middle-man sends the payment over to the seller). Middle-men can decide their own rates. But it'd make sense to only allow those that have helped to contribute and are trustworthy to take the position.

    What will that help Charles?
Person A is a scammer, he buys a site from Person B for 500$
Person A gives the money to Person C, Person C gives it to Person B
The trade goes on as Person B transfers the site to Person A, and gives all the files.

After 1-2 weeks, Person A refunds the money he gave to Person C, so Person C will try to get the money back from Person B too...

The end: Middle-Person helps nothing in my vision...

The buyer would be unable to retrieve the funds if the middle-man no longer had them -- that's how PayPal works.

The other alternative (if the middle-man wanted to use their PayPal account on a casual basis, without limiting use to being a middle-man) would be to get the buyer to dispute the funds and then cancel the dispute before the seller progressed to handing over the services/goods to the buyer. The middle-man would still be able to refund the funds if necessary.

  9. But... this is what professional escrow services do. This is what they are good at doing.

I had thought the same idea once to have reputable member handle these but

If "a" send the money to "b" and then "c" sends the files to "b" then "b" sends off the files to "a" and the money to "c" All would be fine

    But

If "a" files a charge back then "b" is responsible for the chargeback if the money is not longer there since it has went to "c" The middles mans account would reflect a negative balance and would have to pay it back out of his own pocket since paypal would not honor his charge back against "c" non tangible items

Would have to protect yourself like a business and run it as an escrow in order to protect yourself if you were "b"

Best to let the professionals handle it and pay the fees depending on the dollar amount your talking. For me I would think anything under $500 is a risk but wouldn't escrow. $500 to $10k would escrow over $10k its worth a airplane ticket and we can meet over lunch.
