Gee that's low, convert that to Euros and I wonder how people cope? What are rental prices like?

    Really?
In Belgium you get €750,- ($800,- (?)) if you aren't working, from the government

And if you do work you'll get like in France.. around €1500,- PAID.. total is mostly around €3500,- but we need to remove money for: RSZ & Bedrijfsvoorheffing...

RSZ is for when we get sick, so we will get an income for not working
Bedrijfsvoorheffind is for other things, but it's all for the government in fact

I've got a few Belgian friends here in Spain who left because the government fees are too high. Some of them earn a good income and pay less tax here.

Yeah, like I said.. you get paid €3500,- and what you get is only €1500,-

Though, when we get sick here.. and we need to go to the doctor, it costs €20,- and we get back (for free, as we pay RSZ) €18,-

So we only pay €2,- to go to the doctor

    It's more like $500 (400€).
Rental prices? On a new rent, more than that , but these people (minimum salary earners) typically get cheaper houses supported by the government.

  6. Per Capita GDP's, adjusted for PPP, for these countries:

    1. Netherlands: 41,300
    2. Belgium: 38,300
    3. Germany: 34,800
    4. Spain : 34,100
    5. France: 32,700
    6. Italy : 31,000
    7. Portugal: 22,000

It seems that if you're earning money in Internet dollars, moving to Portugal might make sense. If you're earning local dollars, moving to The Netherlands might make sense.

It's a little misleading looking at those figures, Italy has one of the highest cost of living in Europe. Spain sitting in the middle has one of the lowest cost of living. I've yet to see Portugal so can't comment, but can definitely say that the income gap between France and Germany isn't matched by cost of living, it being generally more expensive in France.
