Thread: Do You Operate (Mainly) as a Company or a Person?

  1. a bit of both heh, it's somewhat dual, but the thing is we don't face any "real risks" in our business, like going bankrupt, owing lots of money to creditors etc and that is usually the main reason to set up a company.

I operate as a person. I love to make money online. I'm mostly into SEO services.

I am based in rural France and there are very high obligatory 'social contributions' (health, pension etc) for individuals in France. Hence I am a company.

To the bewilderment of our company accountant, who can't understand what I do or how I make a living from it, or why overseas companies keep sending me money without me invoicing them first. All his other clients are farmers, carpenters etc and affiliate marketing is kind of unheard of here.

That paragraph wonderfully describes the difficulty I have often had explaining this business to people.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

    Exactly.
I've tried a few times in the past, but now I just don't care, afterall the more I talk the more competition there is...

People here in India are bewildered, bemused and scared at the same time.

"How the hell did this kid get so much money and build so many things in so little time all using the internet."

    People ARE strange.

    Them too.

They think they understand online marketing, but they don't.

So, the only bunch I hang around with is entrepreneurs who know what they're doing.

I operate all of my online activity as a person, but I should really incorporate as a business in order to protect my personal assets. My problem is that I live in California and they charge an $800 a year incorporation fee. $800 a year would seriously cut into online profits that I do as a hobby/side job!

It's not cheap. In NZ it's cheaper, but still not overly cheap. Tax rates are also significantly higher, unless you are earning a fairly substantial income.
