Thread: Benfit of Dmoz Listing?

  1. #31
Hi, I've been on page one of DMOZ for two years now, and it has helped a great deal, I am fully aware that you should never post anything negative about other forums but I feel sorry for the Editors and Mods in the DMOZ Forum because all they ever seem to get is 'when will my site be listed'

I still find DMOZ listings on the first page of Google. So, the listing should bring some traffic over the long term.

The big issue is that the DMOZ is mostly defunct and many categories are full and have no editors.

The two sites that I submitted on September 4, 2011, are still not listed. Each was submitted to an industry category and a location category.

These were both good, mature business sites that should easily be approved.

It has been almost 7 months since submission, and counting the days until approval.

This is form the DMOZ support forum:

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestions in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

The two sites that I submitted are an experiment. I have not seen any submission that I did get approved for over 5 years. Most of the sites that I submitted are legitimate business sites, and not blogs or anything that might be considered spammy.

It can be worthwhile to submit a site, but don't count on it being approved. I think the number of approvals these days is miniscule.

  6. So if I submit my website to Dmoz, I can expect it to be listed when, a year from now?

If you submit to dmoz, you may or may not ever get listed.
You may get listed in a decent amount of time, or it may be years to never.

About the only thing I see about dmoz?
Spend the few minutes to submit your site.
Then freaking stop worrying and bugging people in forums about dmoz and your site.

Seems every forum has people that just got to gripe, talk about, and pontificate on dmoz.

That probably helps dmoz a heck of a lot more than the forum!
    Hhahahahaha....

In recent times DOMZ is the part of search engine optimization and also known as open directory projects classified into different categories full of websites. It is one of the best things you can do in terms of getting quality backlinks.

As an update, the two sites that I submitted on September 4, 2011, are still not listed. Each was submitted to an industry category and a location category. Both of these sites are high quality business sites with unique content. There is no advertising, affiliate marketing links or anything that might get the sites rejected.

If you can get a backlink in DMoz, that is a good thing. The problem is getting one.
