Congratulations, Rob! I'm glad to know the new owner is a familiar face.

  2. #12
I can't believe a Texas person is now running this forum.

  3. #13
I am back after a long time here and happy to see new ownership.Would like to contribute here.

This forum owned by Will has greatly helped me to learn the ropes. RobJones is an excellent choice as successor.

    Hopefully so.

Truth be known it is probably going to get a little quieter around here in the short run
The consensus of mods and longterm users that've expressed their wishes is that we amend the registration process to limit access for hit and run spammers, sig spammers, etc.

The general feeling is that the real humans trying to converse will benefit more from a clean but productive forum that's a little slow than from a boatload of threads from wannabe link-builders like...

    --- "What is Google and how can it help me in SEO?"... {written by a guy with an SEO company sig}
--- or the latest cut and paste tome about UGG boots,
--- or a WTS thread with a Seller and two avid fans, all sharing one keyboard
--- or shotgunned replies courtesy of Xrumer

There's no realistic way of avoiding all such annoyances, but the primary sources of a LOT of spam are well known to many here, and making those jump thru a few hoops to enter will be to the advantage of people that came here to ask or answer legitimate questions or market a product.

Will set the groundwork for some of this in place already, and it appears the direction we are headed will be to have a forum that's more exclusive to those here to do business or engage in discussion. That won't be especially popular with some in the link-building mindset, but that's basically not the problem of the membership here. It will mean less traffic but better discussions, and that should lead to slow but quality growth and a better resource for the membership. Worth a shot.

And that was, in the beginning, what a forum was all about.
    Discussion.
Then someone wanted a BST, and someone wanted this, and that.
And you end up with forums like DP and NP, and the worse V7N.

Yes, V7N is the worse for banning spammers and people violating the rules. Very bad moderators on there.

    Thanks Rob Jones.
