Is the adsense placements alright?
Are the articles' length good enough?
What other improvements can I make?

This is the first time I'm actually developing my domain name into a full website/blog.

I would focus more on pages than posts. This isn't a topic that is really date-centric. I would find a Wordpress template which looks more like an information resource than a blog.

The articles do appear to be shorter than my personal preference, but I can't prove that Google agrees with me.

Copyscape doesn't say great things about the uniqueness of some of the articles.

You want to make this a site people will want to visit. Ask yourself, "Would I want to visit this site?"
