SwimForums.net - Competitive Swimming Forum (Reviews Please)

Hey guys, I just made a new forum called Swim Forums - Swim Forums - Swimming Discussion Forum and Community

It's for competitive swimmers from around the world to discuss and share different techniques and help each other out to improve their performance in meets and competitions. Hopefully, everybody who joins and posts a little on Swim Forums will learn something new that they can use in the water.

For those of you who aren't competitive swimmers, we still have a Recreational Swimming forum just for you! Discuss different water games and non-intense swimming. Swimming is in fact the best sport for you!

    Constructive critisism please

    Hi Zash,

I find it really good and have covered many topics.

Just joined it, wish you all the very best for your venture.

    Good luck

I think its a great subject and a good domainname. Looks like you have a strong competitor though, an image ad of swim.com which is also a forum showed up on top of the front page.

Well I'm using a 17" widescreen monitor and there is a TON of excess margin space. Also, there is a LOT of blue and hardly any other color. (In fact, the only other color I see is your name in red at the bottom.)

The header isn't bad, but it isn't too appealing to the eye IMO. The buttons under the header are a little easy to overlook as well.

Overall, not a bad job at all. I've always been a fan of vBulletin software, but due to lack of funds, I'm looking at other alternatives, so let me know how you like MyBB.

If you would like a little better review, i suggest giving us a test account to log in as, since some functionabilty is only testable by a user.

Thanks for your review The color scheme is all blue and silver, being a swimming forum

Regarding the excess margin, I actually have a fairly small monitor (1024x768 pixels), and I always keep my websites under 1000 so that it works well for smaller browsers, and I don't think its that bad for big browsers either. However, I will be monitoring my audience's browsers, and depending on what I see I may make additional versions of the theme for their browser (I can't use fluid because of certain theme limitations).

Regarding MyBB, I have been a religious MyBB-fan for a year now. It has ALL of the features of vBulletin, and it's actually a lot easier to use. It's open source and free, and it has a great hook-based plugin system so you can install plugins without any template edits.

    Excellent theme and great customisation
However, why do u want to put the ads now, let the forum get some threads and posts then put the ads, else it will bring up pageviews and bring down your overall ctr if you have other websites in your account

I've already gotten 3 clicks today . So I'm not worrying about getting smart priced.

your current theme is quite dull..try including some light blue..something like this

and also add features like videos, an article directory(like swimforums.net/articles) where you give tips and also allow members to post articles..make it something like sitepoint. add value to it..
