    Tech Noxx

I've been working on Tech Noxx just a little, over the past few days or so. It's time to ask for some feedback. It's time to find out if these changes were for the good or the bad.

    Home page: http://www.technoxx.com/

Tech Noxx is now running WordPress. I was previously running a custom CMS. It made no sense to continue that practice. I wanted the ability to use plugins, to save time adding new articles and faster indexing times. I've also noticed around a 2-3% CTR increase, since I added the link unit, and increased the width of the theme (in relation to Tech Noxx's old theme). I've had some matching business cards printed too.

    Discussion page: http://discussion.technoxx.com/

I've also *just* released a new technical support forum. I've added this in attempt to develop some return traffic, and to give me ideas on the sorts of information that people are after.

What do you think about these new updates? What do you think of Tech Noxx in general?

Looks nice and in a similar topic to my blog. I like the simple interface where the focus is on content. The categories are also laid out nicely.

    Charles,
Love the new look to the blog! The forum seems like a neat way to auto-generate content too! Best of luck.

Hmm, I was trying to avoid looking too much like a blog. Have I failed in doing so?

It does look bloggish to me.

I notice it doesn't show the date of each post, so that makes it not look so much like a blog. However, everything else about it looks like a blog. The excerpt from each post being laid out on the left side with a heading makes it look like many blog layouts. The list of sections on the right also looks like it does on a lot of blog layouts. So basically the layout makes it look like you have a bunch of blog articles on the left and categories on the right.

It might do you some good to put some more text in the header which explains it's an informational site. You could even change the layout completely if you wanted.

An unrelated piece of advice I have is to work more on the <title> tags of the homepage and each of the other pages. Make them SEO friendly. Use full sentences and include phrases in those sentences that people would be likely to type into Google.

Example. The page titled "VoIP" could be called "What is VoIP?" or "Explanation of VoIP".

In that case, can you explain to me what a normal site would look like?

This layout is performing a lot better than my previous layout. CTR increases are proving that it is not worth changing.

    More SEO friendly?

I was previously titling pages like "What is VoIP?" - for SEO purposes, I changed this. "VoIP" receives more searches than "What is VoIP?"

    Thanks for your help.

It's hard to say what a non-blog would look like. Most sites in your category are blogs. That's probably why your site is mistaken for one. I have a tech site, too and it's set up in blog format.

I just did some Googling. Look at all the sties listed on the homepage at www.toptechsites.com. They are mostly blogs or at least appear to be.

To me it's OK yours looks like a blog even though you are not going for that look. Especially if your SEO and earnings are at peak performance using that layout. About that, it's interesting that short phrases work for you. On my blog long titles generate a lot of Google traffic. I guess both are valid methods. Whatever works.
