Each space in URL will exhibit as %20 when opened in a web browser. So, using - in URLs is better than using space.

Here is the definite answer to the characters that are valid to use in a URL. It is a document by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN. Beware of Microsoft servers. They allow you to violate the rules, which could sometimes have unpredictable results.
