Google May Penalize Your Site for Having Too Many Ads

A Search Engine Watch article reports that Matt Cutts talked about upcoming algorithm changes at PubCon and stated, ”What are the things that really matter, how much content is above the fold," Cutts said. “If you have ads obscuring your content, you might want to think about it.”

Perhaps he should read some of the e-mails I get from the AdSense team advising me to add more AdWords ads to my web pages.

The Google spam-team and Adsense team are known to contradict themselves. I guess in the end it's a "zero-sum" game for Google. One publisher goes up and another goes down.

From what I understand the issues are with affiliate links and banner ads. I haven't heard of any sites being penalized for running too much Adsense.

I suspect they are really focused on the spam sites that place two large ads above the fold and you have to scroll down to read the content. Most of those tend to be MFA sites.

My feeling it that they should wack the news sites that throw up an advertising page before you get to the article. I find these to be particularly annoying.

In my opinion this is getting too involved in what is my business, not googles business. I will put ads on my web sites because those as help me to run those sites. in my case I do care about the quality of the traffic , and I am not using google only to send traffic to my adsense sites. there is the real situation where made it 4 adsense sites exist. the problem with this is google has been very supportive of search sites in the past. from what I have heard, there are big differences in the search team goals and the ad says team goals at google. I am not sure that even google knows what it wants at times.

I am glad to hear this personally.

You know how much I hate going on sites or forums with too many adds, way too many! They even make my browser puke and lagg!
Then I have to wait minutes for it to get over the sudden add shock and load.

    So I support this.

People should stop throwing a 100 adds at us to earn some bucks, because I won't click them.

Yeah, that's right, Google will now penalize all the websites which are flooded with ads and offers less informative and low quality content. Google have already update its Panda now, and is ready to get back in action. Google will reduce their PR and Search Engine Ranking.

Google do not like affiliate based websites but this is not the case of adsense because they know that adsense have certain limitations and all publishers need to follow that.

But, really, one should not go for too many ads on his/her website.. It annoys the users..
