Nofollow links don't help indexing, because they are ... <drum roll> ... not followed by the search engines.

I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Will, google (matt cutts) has never said they do NOT follow no follow links.
Buried in all the googlese it just means if they like the no follow link, then they follow it.
    And index it.

Now for social media and no follow links.
    It boils down to this:
SEO people love do follow for the page rank.
Webmasters love ANY link, do follow or no follow, for the TRAFFIC.

If one goes into social media as a way to get traffic, they will not be disappointed.
If one goes into social media as a way to get page rank, they will be disappointed.

Most social bookmarking sites are write-only -- no one reads them. Submitting to them will bring neither links nor direct traffic.

There are very few social sharing sites with any potential, and few of those are "bookmarking" sites.

What's missing from this list? Facebook, StumbleUpon, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, GooglePlus (maybe), Digg (maybe).

There are a handful of smaller niche bookmarking sites that are good. Some combine a weekly newsletter with them. But if it's your typical spam-filled bookmarking site, I'd have to agree with you.

Social bookmarking really be helpful to get more backlinks to the site and not only links but also more traffic to the site. but you need to provide the unique and meaningful description in your submission and then only people attract to click on your link. And as they come to your site then try to turn then into regular visitor of your site so you will get more benefit.
