Thread: does twitter follower count matters

Hi All,

I regularly see a large array of posts starting something like this

I have XXXXXX no of Followers in Twitter i can advertise your Link for XXXUSD.

just a simple question to all who might have used such facility.


did you get enough benifit or not.

also what i think is that to build a large array of followers you either have to be a big celebrity or have been working out you follow me i follow you strategy.

not biasing this thread more but a simple question


does large twitter count actually helped you spreding content.

does anybody has any opinion on it.

When you're signing up with one of the services to sell Tweets for $$$, number of followers is one of the metrics used to determine how much one of your Tweets is worth. Another is how many people actually click through the URL in the tweet (considered to be another quality factor). Some others (factors) include:
- number of your tweets retweeted
- Number of @yourname messages sent and replied to
etc
Varies a bit by service. One of the ones I saw the other day on the advertising end of things increased the cost per click to me by .30 (if I remember right) per 1000 followers of the person sending out the tweet.

A number of followers is not always needed.

If you utilize hashtags in your tweets your post can be searched by and seen by all of Twitter.

The number of followers really doesn't matter if you don't interact with a good chunk of them.
Take me for example, I have a few followers right now but I would rather have 10 good ppl that I chat with and they RT my stuff, vs 1,000 bots that don't post anything worth reading and never interact.

There's two aspects to look at concerning the follower count (1) the value of the followers as it relates to click through. In other words, will the followers actually read the tweets and visit your site. (2) relates to real time search and organic listing the tweets in the search results. I believe that the number of followers is a ranking factor. But more important is the authority of the followers.

I would agree with this to a point, but if all you do is spam twitter, you may lose your account if Twitter catches on.
I've seen accounts with 50k followers vanish because all their post were like "Go check out my site xxxxxx" or "get teeth whiting stuff here xxxx"..lol
I think since Twitter implemented the report system, it's helped cut down a little on the spam.

Some people believe that using the hashtags in your tweets is a sign of sp*m when it's used excessively.

I guess the number of followers adds credibility to a profile, so it matters, especially if the account will be used for business purposes.

If I remember correctly, wasn't the use of hashtags seen as a negative for the incorporation of Twitter results in Google land? I could be "mis-remembering" though...
