Based on what I"m seeing, sites that have claimed authorship are ranking better--and people are clicking a whole lot more on search results that include an image. So while technically a +1 may not help, Google Authorship gives more trust and authority--which appears to be helping rankings.

I'm seeing what appears to be the same thing, but I'm not sure if it is because a lot of crappy web pages are disappearing from the SERPs, or because I'm spending more time writing better articles, or because of the trust factor. All three could be influencing rank positions. Traffic has also improved on the sites where I set up authorship.

Yeah, I'm just not completely convinced that authorship is responsible for the improved rank positions. It could be and it would make sense if it is, but there are too many things going on with Google lately, and a number of factors could be in play.
