Thread: What Not To Do On Twitter Twitter

Hybrid View

  1. Exclamation What Not To Do On Twitter Twitter

Here are some things that you should just not do on Twitter:

Don't Twitter every little event in your life- Why not? For one thing, everybody does it. You're not going to stand out in the crowd if you do what everyone else does. Except maybe, just maybe, everybody wants to hear about how cute your cat is, and how drunk you got on the weekend, and how you just lost two pounds. Think again--nobody cares.

Don't curse- Yes, we're all adults and we can handle four-letter "potty words" without running and telling our mommies. But each micro-blog post you make is going to be only a few words. It's neither classy nor mature to make 10% of those ten words a curse word. Some Internet marketers seem to think this makes them look cool. It doesn't. Don't do it.

What else do you hate about Tweeple?

Don't retweet stupid things. Not everything is RT worthy.

Don't only just post links to posts you've made on your blog. It's not big, it's not clever, and it certainly isn't going to get you a lot of traffic! Try and interact with people rather than just expecting them to click your links

Agreed. You need to make your tweets quality, so make sure you're retweeting quality stuff, otherwise you might just be posting it directly.

Don't flood your followers with advertisements.

Don't have a creepy profile picture! Take 5 minutes to sit against a nice wall and take a pic or something. Don't use the default one either.

Don't post asking for more followers. That's one of the stupiest thing I saw on Twitter.

    Yeah, and it's pretty annoying.

Don't follow a load of people (1500) at first to build up your followers. Instead, follow little by little, or not you'll look like another spammer.

Definately. Not only will you look like a spammer, but you'll also look even less appealing to follow if you are following 1500 people but only getting followed by, lets say, 100. It makes it look like you're a crap Twitter user and therefore people are unlikely to follow you.

However, I doubt that out of the 1500 people you're following, that 1400 won't follow you back. Unless if you tell them to do so...

I was thinking more of the short term implications. It's unlikely that all 1500 will follow you back immediately. It could take a few days, a few weeks, or they might never do it! If people click on your profile in this time and see you have hardly any followers and are following loads of people, they're unlikely to follow you in the future, too.
