Default What's your views on Alexa?

For me, it's nothing but crap.

Really, weird rankings. Some of my sites went from 50 uniques to 200-400 uniques a day and the rank declined, and the opposite happened for other sites when the traffic went down, the ranks went up. LOL.

Any traffic tracking website can't be perfect. Compete is better imo.

I agree it is crap. But many many people follow it blindly.

I read this case study of Daniel Socco where he proved Alexa to be crap.

Maybe you can just use it as a reference but not as a important factor.

EDIT: Yes compete is better.

Alexa ranking can be manipulated sometimes, but still i don't always go against Alexa as i rank somewhat good and my ranking is not better than expected, and not lesser than expected.

I don't have a problem with Alexa because all my blogs rank well on it
My main blog has a rank of 87, 238.
It's very good for when you approach advertisers.
Most people who complain about Alexa are the ones who feel that their sites deserves a higher ranking. I'm not saying their wrong to complain because even daily blog tips complained about Alexa, and they were right to.

Well, to be honest, Webmaster peers has been getting 200 uniques and it was ranking around 90,000 (daily ranks) and now yesterday we got just 34 uniques and our rank was 57,312.

Sometimes, those who feel their sites deserve better rankings are absolutely right. I know a guy who has a health site getting 2,000+ uniques a day and his Alexa is 900,000.

Beat that!

Lol. That's because Alexa is updated at a periodical time. Of course it will go up even though some days you get less traffic than others.

That might be because Alexa ranks websites within different category.

Alexa has never shown relevant for any of my sites, so I stopped using it. I don't think I have checked it out in over a year. I have google analytics on all my sites and even though there are issues with analytics it is consistent across all my sites and I just focus everyday on what I can do to increase it. Most of my sites also have awstats which shows different results then analytics, but it is consistently different accross all my sites, so either doesn't matter in my opinion. The difference is finding ways to increase traffic that you can make more money

No, you got me wrong.

I was talking of daily ranks that are updated daily. Weekly ranks are updated weekly, and 3 month ranks are updated accordingly. Daily rank fluctuations show it's a joke lol.

No, they use the toolbar. Hence, the IM/ tech websites have a BIG advantage over others.
