How To Maximize Your Audio Quality From Cheap PC Speakers

I have a pair of cheap Creative Labs USB-powered speakers positioned at each side of my monitor.

The problem that they have is an annoying mains buzz creeping through that is audible as the speaker volume control is cranked up.

The solution to minimize this problem is to ensure that the digital volume levels are set to the maximums, and then wind down the analog speaker volume control.

I didn't think that the Creative Labs brand was considered cheap, even though the price was at the low end. Well, they are what I was looking for, small, unobtrusive speakers to sit beside my monitor. I feel that there is no excuse for this buzz, even in a cheap speaker, since it is easy to design a low noise amp circuit with proper circuit board layout to avoid this kind of mains buzz. I guess that I should have a poke around inside them.
