Insulting Things Said to You Because You Work Online

Jonathon Volk made a post about this a little while ago but I'd be interested to here your responses to this question - what are some insulting things people have said to you because you work online?

The usual one that I get is that it isn't a real business, you can't earn real money on the internet or its just a scam.

These days I seem to get a lot of people contacting me who I don't even know, asking for free help with coding. I'm all for helping but I have to live and pay my bills as well. Working for free doesn't get me there. Its actually made me highly consider if I continue using MSN (other IM's don't seem to have this problem/I don't have idiots on my lists).

What are some of your stories?

I don't really get many at all but my parents can't seem to grab how it's possible to earn online.

People who work online will only be appreciated or recognized (most of the time) by people who work online themselves or at least know what it is like to work online.

It's not worth bothering about. I have had to tackle the problems faced by "Those who are not like the rest" and have developed an iron skin long ago.

That Iron skin comes handy in this case as well.

Some of the members of my family are the biggest insulters in my case (Especially those with rigid thought patterns and narrow conformative minds). All my friends see that I am earning a decent income, and hence haven't ever insulted me or told me to get a real job or whatever else.

People often think working online is temporary. This is a myth.

I can list many advantages of working in this fashion:

    1. There's no expenditure for office space; you can work straight from your home and collaborate with lots of enthusiastic co-workers worldwide.
    2. There's no traveling expenditure.
    3. There's more freedom and flexibility to learn new technologies and expand your work.

I am sure viewers of this thread can add more to this list.
