Thread: Wow. Minitel still going in France. But ending soon.

This is for you people who remember way back in the late 1980's and up to now, if you live or lived in France.
And that is Minitel!

Now, I remember it! But it was called US Videotel. It was really just in Houston and Dallas, Texas.
Around 1988 to the end some time in 1992 or 1993.
This was the precursor such as it was to the internet today.

I remember not only the people on this system, but the ways we found to move off the system and onto another system that gave us access to people around the country in colleges!
And they did they same.

Ah, the good old days!

I remember the Minitel well. I worked for an international company and whenever I visited our Paris office, the people talked very highly of the system. Many businesses were doing almost all of their purchasing on the Minitel, but they could only buy from French companies that were part of the system. Nonetheless, it was an efficient state-of-the-art system long before before the Internet was unleashed on the public.

I am surprised that it survived this long.
