The T500 is holding up well. It feels a bit lighter than my Dell D830, but it's still on the heavier end of the notebook scale.

The Panasonic Toughbook that I played with was freaky. It was so light that it felt unreal. If it had not been plugged in and operational, I would have mistaken it for a mock-up. I think they figured out how to make semiconductors out of plastic.

I preffer 17" laptops.

Curently thinking to buy some weak performance Acer emachines G725.
Integrated intel graphics, 4200 core duo, 2 gb ram, 250hdd and weight of 3 kg for maybe 600$ looks decent to me.


IBM/Lenovo laptops are very ugly by my taste.


Shame those slim laptops are still expensive.

If anyones plan to sell their old(?) laptops cheap(?) we can arrange some deal

Just got my T500 today! It does look ugly, but hey.. I'm not planning to make out with it

It had windows vista home edition installed, which is actually running a little slow and I'm used to xp, so I'm thinking of putting xp on it.

it cost $599 + $75 for UPS shipping. Rather cheap because it's refurbished, but so far I haven't found any flaws.
All basic settings: core 2 duo, 2.26GHz, 2GB RAM, 1280x800 LCD, 9c Li-Ion. But I don't play graphic games and dont use any heavy soft, so the min configuration is enough for me

I've sent mine into hibernation twice now, trying to undo closing a tab in Firefox.

To my tastes, this is the prettiest notebook on the market.

I keep pressing the caps lock button, it's too close to the letters and then I have to delete it, disable caps lock and write again, then I accidentally hit the caps again..

The 9 cell battery is rocking, I think it can hold a whole day without recharging!

So after a day of work on it I decided to remove vista for good and put xp on it. Vista is a bit slow and buggy, takes 4-5 minutes to start up, IE and explorer freeze all the time and there is just too much useless crap there..

Will, do you use the shock detection feature? It's supposed to shut down the hard drive to prevent damage in case the compute falls from the table or similar stuff.

I don't recall ever dropping a laptop and/or having any hard drive problems after it, so not sure how useful that thing is, compared to how much of the system resources it consumes.

Btw, it's kinda excessive to have two mousepad devices, when in fact I'm using an external mouse heh

I haven't read up on it. Does it require software? I'm running Ubuntu.

This will hopefully be my last magnetic hard drive ever. I'm hoping for a 512GB solid state drive soon.

not sure, I have vista installed on it and I see that feature running.

That red pimple mouse is nice, but still nothing beats a real mouse

So I'm now thinking if U should downgrade to XP.
Do you think it'll run faster then?

I read on some forums that it might the battery's time by 1-1.5 hours.. which is strange and that windows might not see the 4GB memory, however I only have 2GB on it.
Some minor utilities won't work, but I'm not really using them so doesn't matter.
