Language Translation scripts : Violation of Google translator TOS
Hi all,
I stumbled onto an article that claim that :
Quote:
(...)the
terms of the Google Language API do not permit sites to store translation results in the database for a long time:
You may copy, store, archive, republish or create a database of results returned from the service, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, except that you may store results in a temporary cache for a period not to exceed Fifteen (15) days solely for the purpose of using those results to carry out a specific user-requested action;

I followed the link provided in the site but I didn't find any condition with that text.
Here is what i found that is the nearest to the text above:
Quote:
copy, store, archive, republish or create a database of Google Results, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, except that you may: (1) store Google Results in a temporary cache for a period not to exceed fifteen (15) days solely for the purpose of using Google Results to carry out a specific user-requested action; and/or (2) display Google Results that have been "clipped" through a user-requested action, provided that you comply with the attribution requirements described in Section 2.3 below; or
transmit any viruses, worms, defects, Trojan horses, or any items of a destructive nature
Did I miss something ? Or maybe meanwhile Google changed it's conditions and terms of use ?
Thanks for your comments.
PS: Sorry for my bad english
A little bit more complete
Hi Yagami,
I assume that you got this extract from the Google AJAX API Terms of Use.
Google AJAX API Terms of Use - Google AJAX Language API - Google Code
Now, I see important to include the previous block of text so the post does not mislead the readers because as put looks like they accept those actions, but actually they are part of a list of things that are NOT allowed:
Quote:
"You agree that You are responsible for your own conduct and content while using the Service and for any consequences thereof. You agree to use the Service only for purposes that are legal, proper and in accordance with these Terms of Use and any applicable policies or guidelines. By way of example, and not as a limitation, You agree that when using the Service, You will not, and will not permit your end users or other third parties to: ...
... copy, store, archive, republish or create a database of Google Results, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, except that you may: (1) store Google Results in a temporary cache for a period not to exceed fifteen (15) days solely for the purpose of using Google Results to carry out a specific user-requested action; and/or (2) display Google Results that have been "clipped" through a user-requested action, provided that you comply with the attribution requirements described in Section 2.3 below..."
End Quote.
Now, Will, do you think that the use of the translation script violates in any way these Google TOS?
