    Bring Down Internet Explorer 6

Hey guys. I found a campaign to bring down Internet Explorer 6.

    www.bringdownie6.com

“IE6 is the new Netscape 4. The hacks needed to support IE6 are increasingly viewed as excess freight. Like Netscape 4 in 2000, IE6 is perceived to be holding back the web.” - Jeff Zeldman, standards guru

They said they want to bring it down because it doesn't apply to web standards and 'forces' designers to make sites work in IE6, which wastes time and money.

If you want to help bring down IE6, read the 'Get Involved' column on the site www.bringdownie6.com.

So, do you think Internet explorer 6 should be brought down?

    Oh, and by the way,

As quick as possible please. I heard microsoft posted some news about making IE8 mandatory through an update. But I fear it's the same as with IE7, still being able to deny the update.

Honestly, I don't really mind at all about IE6, if there are users using it that are still interested with the content of my website, I'll make an effort to make it compatible. If not, I'll move on.

Unfortunately, when building sites you have to consider the IE folks. I know Firefox/Safari/Opera are all gaining momentum, but IE is just not going to die. I'm not really up on the difference between IE6 and 7 and how designing for IE6 differs from designing for IE7, but in all honesty I create a site and view it in Firefox which I use and if it looks good I'm OK with that. I don't mess a lot with cross-browser compatibility. For the niche sites I'm doing using WordPress it's not that big a deal.

If only IE6 would be close to IE7's standard it would save so much. Trying to do something special in IE6 will fail automatically. Ahh well, it just stinks.

    Yes, most definitely.

It won't be too long now though, I give it about a year.

I have a website and I care about making it compatible with as much browsers as I can.

Was this supposed to be a joke?

Hmmm... You can try using www.browsershots.org

Enter a site and its bots take screen shots of it with different browsers and their different versions.

Though, some of their screenshots may not be perfect due to their 'slow' Internet connection.
