I am working on a new blog design that has a 1000px fixed width. So the user needs to at least have a 1024x768 screen resolution to be able to fully view the new blog design.
I am just wondering if you think this is madness or if it's acceptable to do websites that use this much screen space today? I am happy for any thoughts, ideas or advice. Thanks!

1024x768 is the most common screen resolution these days.
however if you want to make it super easy on yourself, you should try a 960px width layout. 960 is divisible by more numbers, so it's easier to break down and create awesome layouts than 1000 is.

Yeah I agree with david, and shockingly people still actually view sites using the 800x600 resolution. Mainly in part of working for a cubicle like environment. No access to the cool stuff lol.

Alright, so I might not go with a 100 pixels wide design then. I will see how a 960 pixels wide layout looks like instead. Thanks for the input guys! http://community-forums.net/forums/p...IR#>/smile.gif

I am trying out the 1000 pixel wide layout on my blog right now: http://www.green-blog.org
It's a very simple design but I like it at the moment. Would love to hear your overall opinions about it.*

Nice and simple design and blog. Looks good

Nice design there but just a suggestion, perhaps have a possibilities of viewing the theme in different colours such as red or blue or orange to make it have a unique feel.

1024x768 is common display resolution for desktop users. but you can use 100% for the wide size. it'll open in full view in all resolution.
