What do you guys think of 99 Designs as a source for custom graphics?
It's basically an automated system for running a design contest -- with over thirty thousand designers available to participate.
Has anyone tried these guys yet?

I just had a look at the quality of the entries in existing contests. I'd say you can find better quality work by going through portfolios of designers - you can find them on CSS galleries.
I would agree with Mixke. The quality of the graphics you get really is very dependant upon the money that you're willing to invest.
I find that I can get better quality at a lower cost by lurking in the forums here and elsewhere and looking at portfolios. And choosing someone's work that I like.
The only time that I use 99Designs any more is when I have absolutely no idea of what I want, and I leave it to the "contestants". This way I get several ideas with a single posting.
I suggested this site to someone with a new offline business some time ago, One of the main points I saw was that they did not know exactly what they wanted and they could get a feel for whats on offer by looking through all the current running contests. And while its true you may be able to get something cheaper/better/etc if you spend some time on a few busy forums 99designs sure does seem alot less hassle for most people.
I read the owners are making *alot* of money off the back of this also!
Look so good idea like to provide a friendly, professional, and secure environment.Quote:

I think it has great usability and is an attractive site. The usability is much better than scrolling through lots of entries at DP. I would use it if spending in excess of $100 for a logo.
Meh, I don't like it THAT much. There are better sources for designs and content that is much more intimate than that site.
Its a pretty good site... Also the competition starters pre-pay the money so you won't get scammed like DP and others... ;)
I don't like when knowledge are used in contests.
If you are a designer, you will earn 2x more by having a real customer...
