Seems to be back up and working now :)
I don't understand what people have against Hostgator, they provide good services, sometimes they have downtime too but that's normal...
Have you ever seen promoting a hosting company with: "We provide 86,15% uptime" no. I didn't see a single one doing that, but I've seen almost all telling 99,9% uptime or 100% uptime...
Everybody seems to be bitching about Hostgator, but they're just the same like all those others, so if you bitch against Hostgator you should be against ALL hosting companies :D
Glad it's back up btw!
When they sell their service, promoting it as 100% uptime, they should stay true to their word.
Even 99% uptime is bad to some extent. This means that your website will be down for 3-4 days per year. If you make e.g. $1000 per day, this is costing you $4000 per year.
This is why people go with 100% uptime (and why hostgator promote the fact) and imagine how many people would have lost revenue when hostgator went down.
Basically, no company should promote their business/sign up clients using false facts.
Yup, Hostgator was down for me for about 2 hours yesterday...right at COB here which kept my arcade from having its best day ever by 1700...still got there, just took til 2200...guess I'll subscribe to their tweets now...
Cheers, James
True, everybody that is smart enough knows that their 100% uptime guarantee is just a thing to get more clients, and they are closer to it than most other hosting companies are ;).
Once you have a business that gets 1,000$ it's pretty obvious you need an own server/dedicated server as most of the times the site will be pretty big already. But even than, remember 'ThePlanet' being on a place where 'Catrina' (or whatever it was called) passed by? It destroyed things in that place and because of that a lot of sites were down. It is just nature, if something goes down in the datacenter it's mostly not the cause of the datacenter but something else.
If you go with big companies like ThePlanet, LeaseWeb etc than I'm sure you won't have a lot of downtime nor problems :D If you go for cheap; shared hosting, than there will be problems sometime, it's normal and it's way of life :D
Good Point on going with the big boys for more reliability...hadn't had any issues til yesterday and today for Day 2 of Hostgator crapping out at the end of the work day here in Elvis-land for me...
Cheers,
James
I don't have much problems with Host Gator other than the overselling and servers are way beyond their pricing.
The worst web hosting is HOSTGATOR
I once paid to sign up, and they banned me for using the i min cron, even when they say it in the TOS crons allowed!
Erm.....
Crons that run less than 15 mins ruins the server :(
Did you appeal? Or did you ask them why fully?
