    Post O2ProxyHosting

    Hello,
I just saw there aren't any threads to discuss about O2ProxyHost. How's it going for you guys? For me it goes pretty well, but at the time of writing it's offline.. A

Do you have the same problem or not?

Well, never tried it but looks promising. If it's still good after two or three years, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I would probably never ever try any other hosting than my current and past host, Techentrance after having seen proxy hosts come and go, rise and fall. Never had a notable problem with them (Which was caused by something on their side).

What host is a lot of you guys using, I noticed a overwhelming majority of the proxies submitted to my site hdiefinder are pretty slow, and their DNS is slow too. I think there all using some shared hosting.. I hope its not that O2proxyhost, well it could be several of them. Those shared hosting admins needs to scale up their hardware.

Still offline by the way. And yes, TechEntrance is good, but too expensive for 150 set & forget proxies

Server 01 was down because of Apache dieing - everything but Apache was working. I'm working on a fix to automatically reboot if this happens again.

You probably could write a script in Perl that checks that httpd is running, else reboot it, and it run the .pl script as a cron every 10 minutes or something.

Yea that's what is currently being done but if Apache fails to restart after doing that the whole server needs to be rebooted.

I've been running proxies 2 years, and never had trouble with apache crashing, You might be having something hairy going on with your server,
Like one of your customer's having the Glype caching enabled, with their scripts writing and searching threw a folder with tons of cached files, its a lot of disk I/O its just going to make the server crash. I guess thats problem though is it might be hard to pinpoint which customer has the caching enabled. You really should make no one using that option in Glype. I remember I turned on the Caching thing before and it after it filled up with about 300,000 files, the server got really slow and crashed. So I stopped using that, and installed Squid.

I've noticed that lately the server seems to go down at least once a week, and unfortunately sometimes stays down for a very long time, which obviously affects traffic levels considerably.

@Nathan. I have a little suggestion. Would it be possible to draw up some kind of basic proxy optimisation / setup guide specific to the O2proxy servers to help proxy operators keep the server running smoother. I don't know if you could enforce it, but some kind of setup/optimisation guide could give people a starting point for getting their proxy setup in the most compatible way for O2proxy servers..

I'd certainly consider adjusting my proxy settings if it would help keep the server up, hopefully others would adopt it too if it means less downtime. Would that help at all , or not worth the trouble ?
