Which one do you prefer, Hosting your website from a computer at home or paying $5 month for a hosting service? I prefer the pay method just because I never handle the technical stuff. what about you?

If I had the techniqual knowledge, I would love setting up my own servers (I could have complete power over my site). Unfortunately, I don't so I guess I'll go with number 2. :P

Yeah setting up a server is quite easy but trying to manage it is quite hard. bte I do not have to worry about hackers. I hate hackers

In which way is it harder to manage a server once it is properly set-up? I mean, aside for keeping sure it's plugged, I don't know what can be tough to handle once everything is well installed.

Once the server is installed you are responsible for storage and management of data, user accessibility to certain files,page errors, and server corruption(downtime). It's a lot of work managing it

Personally I'm happy just to pay for my hosting. My sites are still pretty small so it doesn't cost me that much, and it also means that I don't have to deal with all the technical stuff (which I can't do) everytime some tiny little thing goes wrong.

That said, if I had the tecnical knowledge, I would love to get my own server so that I could start a hosting company :P

I would never set a server on my own. Too much of a headache. I travel a lot and blah blah, so would never work for me.

@Farrhad I agree! What if you were on vacation in your server was down..That would be a major disappointment.

Paid hosting rocks, unless you have over 100 sites I guess.

It still depends on what technical knowledge you have. I mean, you could have thousands of sites, but if you don't have a clue what to do when your servers go down, you'd probably rather you'd gone with paid hosting
